FarmVille Game Tips and Hints on Expanding Farms

Facebook Game App - Make Money Faster to Expand Farm and Crop Values

Sep 22, 2009 Robin Montanye

In Facebook's online game FarmVille, each player starts off with a farm that is 12 by 12 squares large. The faster he can expand his farm, the more money he can make.

At the start of the game, each farmer is given a small plot of land, some money and an even smaller six square section that has been plowed and planted. The object of this game is to grow crops and sell them to get more money to buy more crops and expand the farm. The faster a player can expand the farm, the quicker he can earn even more money and the more things he will be able to buy. There are many general strategies for FarmVille and calculations that can be made to determine which crops are the highest paying crops in FarmVille, all of which can help the player advance in the game.

The FarmVille Money System

Players can earn either FarmVille coins or FarmVille cash (represented by an icon of paper bills). Farmville coins are acquired by harvesting crops and they are earned in rewards bonuses. Coins are the most common form of money in the game. The green cash is the more rare and is rewarded slowly over time for certain accomplishments and each level that is gained. This money can also be purchased with real world money and will buy mostly decorative and "extras" in the game.

Expanding Farm Size in the Game

At the onset of the game, each player receives a 12 by 12 space. This can be expanded one of two ways: either by purchasing it with coins plus having a minimum number of neighbors or with green cash. To purchase land, each incremental piece of land must be obtained before moving to the next size, so each player will need to purchase a 14 by 14 space before moving onto the 16 x 16 space and so on. The 14 by 14 space will require 8 neighbors and 10,000 coins to purchase or 20 FV green cash and no neighbor requirement. The16 by 16 requires 10 neighbors and 25,000 coins or 20 FV, and the 18 by 18 requires 13 neighbors and 50,000 coins or 20 FV, the 20 by 20 requires 16 neighbors and 75,000 coins or 20 FV with plots going larger from there.

General Tips for FarmVille Success

Players can advance their levels faster in the game by adding more friends to the FarmVille neighborhood. Players should check the Neighbors tab in the game to see which Facebook friends play FarmVille so requests can be sent to them to be a neighbor in the game. Friends are not automatically applied to the game so it is possible for two people to both play regularly but not be neighbors in the game. While playing the game, players can visit farms that belong to their friends and "help" them out to earn bonus money and experience.

Remembering to send friends the free gifts on a daily basis will help them to remember to send gifts. It is recommended to only do this with FarmVille friends, though so the non-players on the friends list don't start to get annoyed. Sending gifts to non-FarmVille users who might be interested in joining in the game is fine, but sending them everyday might start to get annoying.

Players can also benefit from the accomplishments of their friends. To gain the most benefit, each player should check his Facebook Home page for news feeds from his friends that include FarmVille accomplishments. At the bottom of many of the accomplishments is small lettering that is a link to "Get a Bonus" or other prize. Clicking on these links can yield between 50 and 500 coins to the user.

A harvester, tractor or seeder can be purchased for 30,000 coins which can help with the slow process of plowing, seeding and harvesting. It is important to know, when purchasing these pieces of equipment, that they use a portion of their fuel each time they are utilized. Gas to refuel costs 3 FV green cash each refill, or over time, the fuel will be automatically replenished. The fuel in the fuel bar is shared for all of the vehicles that the player owns.

For decorative purposes, and for a little fun, it is possible to make hills and retaining walls in the Farmville game farm using fencing and optical illusion.

Christopher Pascale :
To clarify, there are people willing to put their own money into making a Facebook farm look nice?
Sep 22, 2009 7:36 PM
Robin Montanye :
To clarify even further. There is the opportunity to pay real world cash to buy items that can be used in the FarmVille game on Facebook - either to make it look nice or to advance in the game. I don't have any figures as to whether or not people actually do.

I block my farmer in bales of hay, this speeds up the process of seeding, and harvesting dramatically. Just look wherever your farmer guy is on the screen when you first log on and buy bales of hay to place around him/her completely. This will keep your person in one place, thus allowing you to click superfast on all the empty plots.

Can you change the name of your farm?
Sep 30, 2009 1:46 PM
Robin Montanye :
Every farm is given a default name at startup and at the moment, there isn't a way to change that name. There is some discussion about the possibility in the future.

Those last two expansions are not developed yet, they are just a preview of what is to come. As soon as the techs at Farmville finish the development of those sizes, they will let everyone know how to get them.

Great game for polishing your math skills for people who use to hate math.
You learn time management skills, cost, and planning. These are very valuable skills in the market of today. What I like best is that I can't farm in my appartmet. It gets your feet wet by learning what a real farmer has to do and having fun. You learn from your mistakes from not tending your farm crops.
Of course they leave out some of the real stuff.
If you didn't learn how to do chores growing up, or have any jobs yet, it nudges you to learn responsibility by rewarding hard work.
Love it way more than those killing games.

the question "I see some farms the have been elevated on hills or higher ground and bales stacked. How do you do that?

This is an illusion casued by putting fences next to each other, it is visualy appealing but not efficient for your farm
